  • Brexit's impact on the exports to the UK has had little impact on quantities so far.

  • A new tomato-processing factory was opened in Ghana, owned by the Leefound Food Stuff Ghana Ltd.
  • The Ontario government announced changes in contract negotiations for carrots and tomatoes specifically, which could remove bargaining power from growers.
  • The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is partnering with Liberty Shared to combat forced labor in global commerce.
  • The seed enhancement company Inotec launched a new technology increasing the germination potential of a batch of tomato seeds.
  • The US Processed Tomato Stocks-on-hand report for 1 December 2019 shows that inventory is down 11.4% from the prior year level.
  • The growing processed tomato market in India has a great potential and global food leaders such as Kagome are leading the charge in making preservative free products.
  • Kagome Food India is working closely with farmers to set up an integrated value chain for tomatoes.
  • The strategic partnership between the Tomate 2000 Program and the Gisworking company led to the creation of an application providing growers with detailed agronomic advice.
  • Paste prices in USA, Spain, Portugal, Italy, China and Chile.
  • The Shalter Paraguay group of companies, in partnership with the Argentinian company Horvindul, plans to open a tomato processing plant in the region of Asunción.
  • It has been confirmed that Barilla is to acquire Italian Food SpA, which will take place in three stages.
  • The Italian Development Cooperation plans to invest in two UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization) projects in Egypt and Iraq.
  • A new study assessed the effects of digestate and biochar fertilizers on yield and fruit quality of processing tomato under organic farming system (OFS).
  • The 2020 California Processing Tomato Report shows the tomato processors contracted for 12.0 million short tons in 2020.
  • US Processed Tomato Stocks as of 1 December 2019
  • One of the Greek pioneers in the tomato industry, Gerasimos (Makis) Kanakaris, passed away recently. His legacy is continued by the family-owned Rasmelo Hellas Trading, one of the major tomato exporters in Greece.
  • Canpack, a Polish metal packaging manufacturer, launched a new can packaging that integrates the branding to the top of the cans.
  • The program of the 16th ISHS Symposium on the processing tomato, which will take place in parallel with the 14th WPTC Congress in San Juan in March, has been published.
  • WPTC Crop Update as of 28 January 2020.
  • In Nigeria, Tomato Jos Farming and Processing Ltd has pledged to produce 10% of the tomato paste to be consumed in Nigeria.
  • The Italian harvesting machines producer Guaresi reckons that the global market in 2020 will be around 100 units.
