The Shalter Paraguay group of companies, in partnership with the Argentinian tomato processing company Horvindul, based in Mendoza, intends to open a tomato processing plant in the metropolitan region of Asunción and organize the regular supply of high quality raw materials for industrial processing.

To this end, last September, the project managers visited the growers of this district located about a hundred kilometers east of Asunción, in order to learn about local farming practices and current problematic issues, and to study the feasibility of the project.

Processors intend to supply seeds and inputs to the growers in the area, asking in exchange that the farmers supply the tomatoes required for industrial processing.

Businessman Walter Gwynn said that despite being very innovative, the project is expected be achieved in the near future. He added that the first step will be to demonstrate to local growers that agricultural yields can be greatly increased by improving cultivation practices and developing the use of other varieties.

He added that the objective of the project is to see growers and processors profit jointly from the work carried out together.
