Political leaders of Venturina (Livorno province in Tuscany) have launched a project aimed at reinforcing the tomato processing industry, with the specific aim of supporting cultivation and improving the reliability of prices and payments.

Regional authorities in Tuscany hope to relaunch and develop the cultivation of tomatoes for processing, which are a basic component of the overall agricultural production system of the region, where operators have been hit by particularly difficult financial circumstances, notably with regard to product processing.
The aim is to create a Tuscany processing tomato district organization, like what has been done in the North and the South of Italy, both of which have evolved in recent years into nationally recognized Interbranch Organizations. The project was recently presented at a conference for growers and representatives of the Petti food industry group, which is the region's main operator of the processing industry.

Regional Council Chairman Enrico Rossi announced that a meeting would be held in the near future in Florence, in order to provide support for the implementation of this structure which is intended to promote contractual agreements with the agricultural upstream sector. He underlined that the regional administration was willing to put effort into ensuring financial guarantees in order to protect the production process and ensure that this farming sector benefits from the required financial capacities.
