  • California: in Central Valley, water supply allocations have been increased to 80%, both for North-of-Delta and South-of-Delta, a significant change since the initial allocations at 35%.

  • In Italy, Casalasco signed an agreement with the two major OP of Northern Italy, A.In.PO. and As.I.P.O., for a price of 150 Euros per ton.

  • In Portugal, Syngenta launched a new fungicide, specific against downy mildew, Orondis Ultra, which combines two active substances acting synergistically.

  • In California, tomato plantings have been delayed because of recent storms, and this also raises the regular concerns on increased pests problems.
  • Europe's leading experts have joined forces to harmonize food ecolabelling, under the new Foundation Earth method.
  • Event: The future of packaging, organized by Goodpack, on 27th April.
  • Event: the Global Tomato Congress in Rotterdam on 16th May, focusing on sustainability.
  • In Spain, an international team of experts and researchers has developed tomato pomace lacquers that will be used to coat the inner surface of metal food packaging, thus preventing corrosion of the metal.
  • US Exports of Tomato Paste in 2022.
  • ANICAV announced its full support for the recognition of a Protected Geographical Indication for the "Neapolitan Peeled Tomato", which is currently awaiting the final step of the approval process.
  • The Dutch company Goudsmit Magnetics recently developed a 10,000 gauss rotating magnet, particularly suited for poorly flowing powders in the food, pharma et chemical industries.
  • Global Imports of Tomato Products, updated April 20 2023.
  • A dry winter and spring brought the Mediterranean area at risk of drought. It has already led Tunisia to implement water-use quotas.
  • The Belgian company Graco is organizing a free Tomato Podcast on May 5th on sustainable and cost-efficient solutions to transfer tomato varieties.
  • Knorr chose the Brazilian Cepêra to produce, sell and distribute its new line of gourmet tomato sauces in Brazil.
  • Israeli researchers have crossbred two species of tomatoes to develop a new variety that is more resistant to drought conditions and can grow with half as much water.

  • In Italy, the AOP CIO (Association of Producers' Organizations) obtained the approval for their TomatER project from the Emilia-Romagna regional authorities. Its aim is to improve sustainability through the use of new packaging materials.
