“At this point, achieving 11.6 million sT, while not impossible, is certainly unlikely”
For week seven ending August 14th, PTAB is estimating 776,821 metric tonnes (mT) (856,299 short tons, sT) will have been delivered to the factories; another 867,908 mT (956,705 sT) are estimated to be harvested in week seven which ends August 21st: quantities are still behind the one million short ton mark which is concerning this far into harvest.
Provisional total (4,483,650 mT) at this date would still be 10% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (5,001,230 mT). According to the latest report published by Westcon Foods, “at this point, achieving 11.6 million sT (10.5 million mT), while not impossible, is certainly unlikely. The USDA will publish an updated intention report on August 30th”.
The 2021 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the sixth week ending August 7th were 30,454 mT (33,573 sT). The total tons YTD for week ending August 7th is 393,495 mT (433,754 sT), or 9% of the total delivered quantities. Provisional total is 29% higher than in 2020 on the same date and 46% higher than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time.
PTAB figures for week ending August 7 state that 120,275 loads were delivered to date (2,730 more loads delivered in 2021 than in 2020), of which 80% were delivered in the Southern region (and 16% in the North), with YTD solids reaching 5.31 compared to 5.44 for the same time period in the 2020 season, or 0.13 lower.
Taking the current figures into consideration, quantities being harvested will bring the provisional processed total close to 43% of the official target of the season (10.5 million mT or 11.6 million sT).
