The harvest season started a few days earlier than in previous years, with small quantities of organic tomatoes. Figures collected by the PTAB show that California processing tomato deliveries are starting to decrease, although still at a level above the 5-year average to date.

For week nine (ending August 31st) PTAB is estimating 933,001 metric tonnes (t) (1,028,458 short tons) were delivered to the factories. Week ten (ending September 8th) is estimated to be 910,711 t (1,003,887 short tons), which would bring the year-to-date total to an estimated 6,976,277 t (7,690,029 short tons).

The 2024 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week eight (ending August 24th) were 24,059 t (26,521 short tons). The total organic harvest is above the level of 2019 but it seems it will stay under the level of the last 4 years.

If the weekly projections come true, the projected quantities on September 8th would represent approximately 68% of the revised California processors' target (10.251 million t) and would be 14.8% above the average quantities delivered on the same date over past five years.
