The harvest season started a few days earlier than in previous years, with small quantities of organic tomatoes. Figures collected by the PTAB show that California processing tomato deliveries continue to plateau at a level above the 5-year average to date.

For week eight (ending August 24th) PTAB is estimating 963,098 metric tonnes (t) (1,061,634 short tons) were delivered to the factories. Week nine (ending September 1st) is estimated to be 953,506 t (1,051,060 short tons), which would bring the year-to-date total to an estimated 6,101,898 t (6,726,191 short tons).

The 2024 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week seven (ending August 17th) were 11,742 t (12,943 short tons). The total organic harvest is above the level of 2019 but it seems it will stay under the level of the last 4 years.

If the weekly projections come true, the projected quantities on September 1st would represent approximately 58% of the California processors' target (10.43 million t) and would be 17.2% above the average quantities delivered on the same date over past five years.
