In compliance with European regulations, price agreements between Spanish tomato growers, represented by the OFPH, and the country’s processing operators were signed mid-February. According to various professional sources relayed in the local press, the price of processing tomatoes in Spain for the 2020 season remains identical to what it was in 2019, at EUR 70 /mT field-gate (between USD 77 and 78 /mT), both in Extremadura and in Andalusia. Given the average cost of transport (EUR 6 to 8 /mT), the factory-gate price has been EUR 76 to 78 /mT (USD 85 to 86 /mT), depending on the distance between harvest fields and processing plants.
In the Ebro valley, in the northern part, it seems that processors have had more difficulties sourcing their raw materials, to the extent that prices have been higher (for
much lower quantities) than in the southern regions, at about EUR 78 /mT field-gate (against EUR 75 /mT last year).
