In October 2019, we published the following articles:

  • Using innovations and advanced technologies of Agriculture 4.0, Casalasco produced and processed zero-residue tomatoes this year.
  • In Spain, exports of tomato paste have for the first time increased by more than 10%.
  • In Italy, the Princes Group published a report in which it communicates its commitment to eradicate modern slavery.
  • The theme of the Tomato Day Conference happening during Cibustec is “Healthy Redvolution”.
  • There are no tomato products on the current final list of US tariffs on EU food.
  • Call for papers for the 16th ISHS Symposium on the Processing Tomato will be closing on 18 October.
  • California 2019: Crop situation as of 5 October, projection to 12 October.
  • In Northern Italy, the GOI (Innovation Operational Group) aims to improve the management of processing tomato production using images from the European Space Agency to inspect crops from above.
  • In Spain, two of the biggest tomato paste producing cooperatives, Las Marismas and Tomates del Guadiana, switched to using the "Octabox" containers, a corrugated cardboard packaging solution designed and manufactured by Hinojosa Xàtiva.
  • In Canada, in the region of Chatam-Kent, the Conagra plant processed more tomatoes than originally expected.
  • The Italian based company FBR-ELPO launches the new version of the radio frequency sterilizer ELETTRA.
  • On the issue of food waste, TOMRA is committed to continuously developing sorting and grading systems to sustainably keep food in our supply chains and out of the waste heap.
  • Graco launched SaniForce 2.0, redesigned based on market feedback and research, in order to improve cleanliness, safety and ease-of-use.

  • In Asia, Hansin leads the way to liquid packaging.
  • In Spain, yields and prices are both up this year.
  • In Portugal, the increase in yields could reach the record levels of 2015.

  • Russia is heading towards self-sufficiency and imports have considerably dropped those last years.
  • In California, Olam decided to close its canning plant facility in Williams in 2020.
  • The Tomato Wellness Council launched a brand-new website.
  • The Dutch company Goudsmit Magnetics redesigned their magnetic separator “Easy Clean Flow”.
  • Some new product launches of 2019: Vero Gusto Premium Italian Sauces from Barilla, Pomodoro al vapore from Valfrutta, Ketchup with added vegetables from Heinz, a deluge of innovations from Conagra Brands and the “Marismas y Salud” project in Andalucia.
  • Jumping genes could be the answer to crop improvement while complying with GMO regulations.
  • In Italy, the prices of tomato products show a consolidation and increases between 7 and 16% based on the category.
  • In France, the CAPL Group has taken over the tomato processing factory in Tarascon, which has been renamed Le Panier Provençal.
  • A study funded by Lycored show that tomato nutrient complex beats synthetic lycopene on lowering blood pressure.
  • Tomato News broadens its scope on tomato paste prices.
