In 2020, 37,071 hectares were cultivated with industrial tomatoes in the basin of the Interprofessional Organization OI Pomodro da Industria Nord Italia where the first deliveries of raw materials are starting in the processing plants this week.

"The data of the effective surfaces – comments Tiberio Rabboni, president of the OI Pomodoro da Industry Nord Italia – attests that there has been full respect for the programming defined by the agricultural and industrial part during the negotiation both in terms of general objectives, given that the actual areas comply with the agreements, both in specific terms given that the checks carried out by the IO, on the mandate of the agreements of the framework contract, verify that the commitments have been respected by the individual POs (Producer organizations) and processing companies".

To demonstrate the excellent planning also the fact that this year's actual areas, i.e. the real areas in the field, decreased by only 2.6% compared to the areas contracted at the start of the campaign, compared to a decrease that is, usually, on average 4%. The actual surfaces of 2020 are in line with those of last year since there is only a slight increase (+ 1.3%) compared to the actual surfaces of 2019, mainly linked to the growth in organic (now equal to 3,451 hectares) driven by surfaces in the territory of Ferrara. The IO will now evaluate the progress of the campaign to check the programming also with regard to the commitments on the quantity produced.
