California: Crop situation as of 16 October, projection to 23 October

For week sixteen ending October 16th, PTAB is estimating 244,398 metric tonnes (mT) (269,403 short tons, sT) will have been delivered to the factories; another 81,620 mT (89,971 sT) are estimated to be harvested in week seventeen which ends October 23rd. Provisional total (9,649,587 mT) at this date would still be almost 8% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (10,512,490 mT).
This will be the last update and PTAB will give their final tonnage number in the upcoming weeks. The 2021 crop will finish approximately 12% off from the initial January estimate of 10.9 million mT (12.1 million sT).

The 2021 California Organic Crop has remained unchanged at 560,075 mT (617,377 sT), now close to 5.8% of the total delivered quantities. Final total is 19% higher than in 2020 on the same date and 32% higher than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time. The 2021 organic crop was the second largest crop on record, with 2016 pack being the largest at 668,428 mT (736,816 sT).

Taking the latest figures into consideration, quantities harvested bring the provisional processed total close to 96% of the official target of the season (10.07 million mT or 11.1 million sT).
