The volumes processed in Azerbaijan increased once again in 2019. Industrial operations absorbed 18 621 metric tonnes, an increase of 13% compared to the average quantities processed over the previous three years (16 430 mT in 2016, 2017 and 2018).
The quantities processed represented around 3.1% of the volumes harvested (609 200 mT), a proportion almost identical to that of previous years.

The statistical data published by the National Committee for Agricultural Statistics does not provide details on the distribution of the quantities consumed "fresh" and in processed forms. Total consumption of tomatoes amounted to 709 400 mT, up more than 11% from the average of the previous three years (636 400 mT).
According to the Azerbaijani authorities, the country is only very slightly dependent on imports of fresh tomatoes and processed products. Last year, Azerbaijan reached a level of self-sufficiency of 138%, a clear increase compared to the performance of previous years (109% in 2013, 119% in 2016). On the other hand, official statistics show a net decline in total per capita consumption of tomatoes over the last few years (from almost 45 kg/year/person in 2013 to 39 kg/year/person in 2018).
