Season started one week late due to unfavourable weather

Based on company’s release, the Ukrainian press announced on 8 August that tomato harvesting and processing season started in Agrofusion. Traditionally, the season was opened on the Yuzhny plant, in the Southern region. Northern and Eastern plants are scheduled to be launched during the week 33 and full capacity is expected to be gradually phased out.

The beginning of harvesting was scheduled at the end of July, but “unfavourable weather conditions delayed the start of the season for a week. Now the weather is normal and contributes to the ripening and quality of the fruits. Tomatoes have a good quality, consistency and colour”, the company notes.

The company announced it has completed tomato transplanting into the open ground on June 3, 2019. This year, the tomato planted area amounts to 7,200 ha, which is 15% more than previous season. The average expected yield is more than 100 mT per hectare, so that Agrofusion intends to grow and process 740 000 mT of tomatoes, about 7 000 mT of which are organic.

The group of companies keeps up with the latest trends. In the season 2019, Agrofusion made two experiments:  it planted tomatoes inside the winter rye hedges (two rows of rye spaced 40 cm apart, a method supposed to protect the seedlings in case of light frosts), and tried the new PlantTape technology. For the first time in Ukraine, Agrofusion team implemented the technology of sowing in a biodegradable ribbon. The tape provides a higher density of plants per tray and maximizes efficiency at all levels: greenhouses, transportation, transplanting.
