Strict Limitations for placing tomato products on EU market from 2030 onwards

Industrial aseptic bags used for transporting processed tomatoes and fruits face a significant regulatory challenge in the European Union. Based on the recyclability criteria developed by CEN and formally submitted to the European Commission, multi-material industrial aseptic bags are currently classified as non-recyclable. Under the forthcoming EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), non-recyclable packaging will be prohibited from being placed on the EU market from 2030.

Without timely and compliant solutions, this will directly impact the market access of products such as tomato paste, sauces, ketchup, juices, jams, and other fruit-based ingredients.

To proactively address this risk and align the value chain around technically and regulatorily viable solutions, the Aseptic Bag Manufacturers Association (ABMA) is organizing a dedicated workshop for stakeholders involved in industrial aseptic bags, including bag manufacturers, fillers, and brand owners.

The workshop will take place on 18 February 2026 (10:30–16:30) at the Municon Conference Centre, Munich Airport. Participation is restricted to member companies, with one representative per company. This workshop represents a critical opportunity to gain clarity on regulatory requirements, assess technical options, and contribute to the development of compliant pathways for industrial aseptic bags before EU market access is jeopardized.
