According to figures collected by PTAB, the 2023 California processing tomato deliveries finally reached the weekly threshold of 1 million short tons (907,000 metric t).
For week six (ending August 19th) PTAB is estimating 951,623 t (metric tonnes) (1,045,985 short tons) were delivered to the factories. Week seven (ending August 26th) is estimated to be 906,399 t (999,134 short tons) which would bring the year-to-date total to an estimated 4,021,563 t (4,433,014 short tons).
For actual tonnes delivered (2,163 million t) through week five, California is tracking above (+4%) the five year average (2,079 million t).
The 2023 California Organic processing tomato deliveries for the week five (ending August 12th) were 81,175 t (89,489 short tons). The total tons YTD for week five is 335,134 t (369,422 short tons), or 15% of the actual total delivered quantities.
The organic crop is producing below average compared to previous years due to harvest being delayed from rains during spring plantings. Provisional total is 7% lower than in 2022 on the same date and 5% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time.
If the weekly projections come true, the projected quantities on August 26 would represent approximately 33% of the California processors' target. (10.89 million t).
