A new range of Goulburn Valley organic tomatoes will hit supermarket shelves this week, launched by SPC. The finely crushed tomatoes, which will be sold in Woolworths, are the first organic offering in the canned tomato category. SPC senior brand manager Gillian Kapurubandara said the tomatoes had been certified by Organic Australia.

‘‘We know consumers are becoming more health conscious and looking for organic products, and we are confident that Australians are going to love our new Ardmona Finely Crushed Organic Tomatoes,’’ she said.

It’s the second deal in as many months for SPC, which signed a deal with Coles in April to produce 1.8million cans of pears, peaches and apricots for Coles. It comes after Coca-Cola Amatil decided in February to sell the iconic processing company.
