OI Pomodoro Nord Italia: Tiberio Rabboni confirmed as president for the next three years

Tiberio Rabboni has been confirmed, for the next three years 2021-2024, president of the OI Industrial Tomatoes of Northern Italy, the inter-professional organization that brings together economic operators in the Northern Italy tomato industry, a territory in which 37 thousand hectares of processing tomatoes were cultivated in 2020, with the involvement of about 2 000 agricultural producers (grouped into 13 Op, producer organizations) and 25 processing plants (belonging to 19 different companies) for the processing of about 2.7 million metric tonnes of tomatoes (data 2020).

"I am grateful for the trust placed in me again by the supply chain – said Rabboni immediately after his re-election which took place at the end of the OI assembly held in Parma – which I interpret as appreciation for the initiatives undertaken to strengthen the OI functions in the last few years and an invitation to continue along the path traced. From this point of view we will try, first of all, to bring the needs of the processing tomato industry to the center of the national and regional choices of the National Strategic Plan of the post-2022 CAP. We will continue collaborations with the national research agencies Crea and Ismea, with SSICA (Experimental Station for Canned Food Industries), with experimental companies and Universities. We will try to orient future varietal trials towards strategic competitiveness objectives and we will refine the tools and services to support production planning. 
Last but not least, we will take on new initiatives to communicate more widely the distinctive values of Northern Italy production: quality, transparency, rights and environment. It is unacceptable that national and international media and newspapers continue to denigrate this excellence of Made in Italy, transforming individual deplorable episodes into generalizations and “making a bundle of all herbs”. They recently wrote that Italian production is at risk due to these episodes. Well, in Northern Italy, where everything is transparent and controlled and where contractual, social and environmental rights are a standard, agricultural production in the 2020 grew by 15% compared to the previous year. And this year, 2021, the agricultural areas planted with tomatoes have further increased by 4%“.

Furthermore, the Assembly of the members of the OI, after having approved some changes to the Statute of the association and to the "Shared Rules", or the self-discipline regulation that binds all the members of the OI, has elected the new Coordination Committee, composed of 18 members, which equally represent the agricultural part and the industrial part.
