The institution of quality-conditioned payments for industrial processing tomatoes will be adopted as from the 2018 season, according to a memorandum of understanding signed at the end of April between the UTICA and the UTAP. This system will be implemented progressively, taking into account the possibilities provided at the levels of production, transport, and processing. Both parties have agreed to encourage all industry players to participate in this program in order to guarantee productivity and quality.
As of 14 May, the starting date for the new scheme had not yet been determined, and the ministerial council in charge of strategy for the tomato processing industry had not yet been convened.

The memorandum of understanding between both organizations stipulates that the processing system will be better structured and organized by setting up contractual relations that guarantee the transparency of operations and their efficiency, as well as obliging all players to comply with conditions and criteria fixed by decree #2408, dated 23 June 2008, regarding the organization of the production campaign for seasonal tomatoes intended for processing.
According to information supplied by the WPTC, the Tunisian tomato industry is expected to process 700 000 mT in 2018, which is slightly more than 13% above 2017 volumes. The Tunisian industry intends to produce 110 000 mT of paste and 22 000 tonnes of canned tomatoes.
