Sun Food LLC, a leader in the Armenian oil and fat industry since its founding in 2009, has announced a significant investment program totaling AMD 1.95 billion (approx. $5.13$ million USD) to scale its food processing operations. While the company established its leadership in the fats and oils sector, it successfully diversified its portfolio in 2021 with the launch of several new lines. This latest capital injection is designed to further bolster these categories, specifically targeting the production of margarine, spreads, vegetable oil blends, and condensed milk, alongside its specialized tomato-based products.

A central component of this expansion is the company’s Primo brand, which encompasses its popular tomato paste, ketchup, and various sauces, as well as its mayonnaise and condensed milk lines.4 To support the increased output of these goods, the Armenian government has granted Sun Food an import duty exemption valued at approximately AMD 242.5 million (approx. $638,000 USD). The financial framework of the project allocates AMD 1.8 billion (approx. $4.74$ million USD) toward the procurement of raw materials and AMD 150 million (approx. $395,000 USD) for capital investments in infrastructure and laboratory technology.

The company’s growth is underpinned by its role as the official representative and exclusive distributor in Armenia for global industry giants EFKO and Cargill. These partnerships provide Sun Food with high-quality universal and specialized fats, as well as milk fat substitutes that meet strict international health standards regarding trans-fatty acids. By combining these premium ingredients with original recipes developed in their own modern laboratories—and maintaining ISO 22000:2018 safety standards—Sun Food has successfully exported its products to the USA, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Israel, and Russia.

This expansion is projected to create 20 new jobs by 2026, reinforcing Sun Food’s commitment to providing high-quality, affordably priced products for the consumer basket while stabilizing the international supply chain for the Primo brand.
