In the week of 11-17 June, the heat wave in south Eastern Europe seriously affected the Iberian Peninsula. From central Spain to Andalusia, and on both sides of the Guadiana on the border with Portugal, diurnal temperatures could have exceeded locally 40 or even 42 ° C; this is 7 °C, and even up to 9 °C higher than the usual temperatures of the period. Nocturnal temperatures would have exceeded 25 ° C several times.

Some Spanish agricultural organizations have already made estimates of industrial tomato harvest losses, amounting to several tens of thousands of tonnes, which remain to be confirmed; more formal evaluations based on information gathered from local AMITOM professionals will be available soon.
