Price Agreement Reached in Central-South Italy
Agreement Reached For The Tomato Campaign In The Central-South Basin
Defined an average reference price equal to €140/ton for the round tomato, €150/ton for the long tomato and €210/ton for the cherry tomato. Important increase compared to previous campaigns for the organic tomato (+€45/ton on all types).
ANICAV and the POs [Producer Organizations] of the Central-South Italy Basin have signed an Agreement for the management of the next tomato processing campaign. The agreement, the result of a responsible and constructive discussion between the parties, confirms the common will to guarantee stability, planning and operational continuity to the entire industrial tomato supply chain, defining the campaign agreement also for the Central-South production basin which adds to the one closed for the Northern basin last March.
The parties, also in consideration of the little time available which would have hardly allowed to face with the necessary serenity an in-depth discussion aimed at defining a new system of shared rules on which to build the 2026 negotiation, have confirmed the structure of the Area Framework Contract of the previous 2024 and 2025 campaigns.
Furthermore, without prejudice to the contractual autonomy of the individual companies when signing the supply contracts, the parties, also with a view to enhancing the productions of the Central-South Basin, have defined an average reference price equal to €140/ton for the round tomato, €150/ton for the long tomato and €210/ton for the cherry tomato, with an important increase compared to previous campaigns for the organic tomato (+€45/ton on all types). It was agreed to maintain the differential between round and long with the shared objective of specifically valuing Peeled [Pelato] productions also through the common support for the recognition of the PGI [IGP] Peeled Tomato of Naples.
“The sense of responsibility prevailed on both sides. – declares Pasquale D’Acunzi – Coordinator of the Central-South Committee of ANICAV – Our objective was to guarantee certainty to the supply chain. It was fundamental to provide companies and producers with a certain reference framework to manage the campaign with the necessary serenity. We could not have afforded to face the next processing campaign without a contract and without an average reference price. It would have been too big a risk. My hope is that this agreement becomes a stable reference for the entire supply chain, contributing to strengthening a climate of trust, responsibility and balance in relations between the agricultural side and the industrial side. An essential prerequisite to guarantee planning, certainties and mutual benefits.”
“With the signing of the agreement for the Central-South Basin, the framework of campaign agreements for the entire Italian industrial tomato supply chain is completed, from the North to the South of the Country. It is a result that fills us with satisfaction, – declares Aldo Rodolfi, President of ANICAV – because it demonstrates that when the sense of collective responsibility prevails – on the part of farmers and on the part of industries – the supply chain knows how to find the right answers even in moments that are not easy. We have built the conditions to face the 2026 campaign with stability and certainties, an indispensable basis for protecting the competitiveness of the sector.”
