Mutti Rewards Farmers with €9M for Record Tomato Harvest
Mutti, the historic Italian tomato brand, recently processed a record volume of 728,000 tonnes during its highly successful 2025 tomato campaign. This achievement was crucial for recovering from a challenging 2024 season that had led to a 20% quantity shortfall and near-total stock depletion.
To recognize and support its approximately 800 Italian farmers, Mutti distributed €9 million in financial incentives across its supply chain. This investment resulted in farmers being paid a 10% higher price for their tomatoes compared to the market average.
CEO Francesco Mutti emphasized that these incentives celebrate the “excellence of expertise” required to grow tomatoes, a crop demanding constant attention and deep knowledge of the land, especially with increasingly unpredictable climates. The financial commitment helps farmers navigate complex challenges like high night temperatures that can stress crops.
Mutti also offered additional contributions of up to 20% more for exceptional early and late-season products, ensuring robust quality throughout the entire harvest period (mid-July to the end of September).
The commitment to quality is reinforced by the 26th edition of the Pomodorino d’Oro Award (Golden Tomato Award). This program rewards the farmers who provided the best quality product throughout the season.
In 2025, 68 farmers received an economic bonus proportional to their ranking. The award recognized top quality across four categories: Round Tomatoes, Datterino Tomatoes, Long Tomatoes, and Cherry Tomatoes.
The strong 2025 campaign helped stabilize the company’s performance. Mutti’s most recent reported turnover for 2024 was €703 million, with exports now exceeding domestic Italian sales.
