Marketing Tomato products in today’s world

Following on from the conferences and the round table held in Avignon on May 17th around the theme of the revival of tomato derived products, here is an example of a marketing initiative driven by both the specific nature of the products – pulps, paste and passata – and the modern marketing channel – e-commerce.

French e-commerce start-up Kazidomi has launched a range of own label tomato sauce products. Kazidomi works on a membership basis. The company asks its members to pay €100 per year, which allows them to benefit from a 20-50% reduction on full-price items when shopping online.

This latest launch includes 11 sauce products, including organic tomato pulp, tomato paste, and tomato passata. This offer complements an already wide range of products designed to meet consumer demand (organic, salt-free, high-protein, gluten-free, lactose-free, vegan, etc.). The new products are lactose-free, gluten-free and vegan.
A pack of these three items sells for €5.35, with a single 700 g bottle of Kazidomi passata selling for €2. The company says it is preparing to launch a range of pesto and pasta in the coming weeks.
