Turkey’s first tomato-dedicated field event for tomato cultivation and processing will be held in Bursa Karacabey (Turkey) on 27-29 July; 50 exhibitors are expected, who will present trial plots, stands and equipment on 5.5 hectares.

DLG International, a subsidiary of DLG (Germany Agricultural Society), will launch a new field event, “Tomato Days Turkey” to debut 27-29 July in Bursa Karacabey, Turkey. Located in northwest Turkey, south of Istanbul in the hub of tomato cultivation, the new field event is dedicated to both the cultivation and processing of tomatoes.

The field venue handpicked for Tomato Days Turkey, which is organised by DLG’s Turkish subsidiary DLG Fuarc?l?k, will allow exhibitors to present their crops in trial plots with products and services on open air stands that can be accompanied by equipment demonstrations. Held on nearly 6 hectares, the event is the first event in Turkey to not only demonstrate tomatoes in the field but also to unite the entire supply chain, from field, processing to retailing.

The word’s tomato production has increased by 13 percent in the last ten years, driven by population growth and increased demand for processed tomatoes. As the world’s third largest producer of tomatoes, producing 13 million tons on 181,879 hectares in 2020, and a world top-ten exporter of fresh tomatoes and tomato paste, Turkey has accumulated significant skills and experience in both cultivation and processing.

Leading companies signed up
Already, leading manufacturers of tomato seeds, plant protection and plant nutrition have signed up and will present products and services on 400 sqm of plots. The event also delivers practical knowledge on most aspects of modern tomato cultivation, including production techniques.

The new field event Tomato Days Turkey is a natural extension of DLG’s work in the horticulture sector both at trade fairs and in practical projects. This will be the first field event in Turkey with plot trials that is dedicated exclusively to tomatoes. With Tomato Days Turkey we have created a new venue for tomato professionals which fulfils DLG’s aim of offering platforms for the furthering of professional knowledge,” says Tobias Eichberg, Managing Director of DLG’s Exhibitions Department.

DLG Fuarcilik is expecting some 50 exhibitors at this first event, many of which will present their methodologies and varieties in the field. Tomato growers can inspect the crop close-up and exchange knowledge with experts. Equipment displays, such as Tomato harvesting machines and tractors, are planned.
