According to the final California Tomato Tonnage report released on 31 October by CLFP, 2017 total production was 10,463,554 short tons (sT) or 9,492,000 metric tonnes (mT).
This result is 17% lower than in 2016 (12.6 million sT, or 11.4 million mT) and 10% lower than the initial 2017 forecast of 11.6 million sT (10.5 million mT). The later start combined with reoccurring heat waves, resulted in the lowest tonnage since 2006.
