Week ending September 2nd brought in 877.800 short tons (sT) (796,200 metric tonnes (mT)), and for the week ending September 9th, the projection is 849,000 sT (770,000 mT). By September 16th, if the estimate of 857,000 sT (777,400 mT) holds true, California tomato industry will have harvested 8.5 million sT (7.71 million mT), about 74% of the 11,500,000 sT estimated for the 2017 pack year.
It does not look like California will have any more weeks at over 1,000,000 sT (907,100 mT). If this is the case, the 2017 pack year will only have had two weeks at over 1,000,000 sT harvested. For reference, the 2016 pack year had seven weeks that harvested over 1,000,000 sT per week.
Of the 877.800 sT (796,200 mT) harvested during week ending September 2nd, only 17,335 sT (15,700 mT) were Organic, for a total harvested reaching now 362,400 sT (328,700 mT).
