The harvest to enter the slowdown phase?
 
 
The figures published by the PTAB show that during the tenth week of harvest (ended 8 September), deliveries of processing tomatoes amounted to 1,124,046 short tons (sT) (1,019,622 metric tons (mT)), slightly lower than the peak recorded the previous week (1 153 591 sT or 1 046 422 mT). It seems that weekly deliveries are beginning to decline, as figures for the current week (15 September) are expected to be 1,114,936 sT (1,011,358 mT): these two weeks bring to eight the number of weeks exceeding 1 million short tons harvested, and the processed quantities forecast in 2018 in California plants at 9.81 million sT (8.899 million mT); these quantities are higher by 1.329 million sT (1.206 million mT, + 15.7%) than those of the 2017 season at the same date, and down only 4.8% over the average of the last three seasons (2015, 2016 and 2017).
This provisional amount represents 83% of the recently revised estimate for California 2018 season (11.8 million sT or 10.7 million mT).
 
As of September 1, the quantities of organic industry tomato harvested amounted to 452,844 sT, the second highest historical level after the 2016 crop year (549,530 sT) and an amount equivalent to the conventional (non-organic) processing tomato production of Midwestern states.
