California 2019: Crop situation as of 24 Aug., projection to 31 Aug.

For the eighth week of harvest (ending August 24th) PTAB estimates are 1,082,303 short tons (sT) (981,757 metric tonnes (mT)) to be delivered. Provisional total (5,059,125 sT, or 4,589,132 mT) is still 23% lower than the average quantity processed during past three seasons at this time (6,596 million sT). 
Another 1,085,212 sT (984,396 mT) are estimated to be harvested during the week 35 (ending August 31st). If achieved, this would only make three weeks of over 1,000,000 sT harvested this pack year (vs six weeks of 1,000,000 plus short tons harvested for the same time period in 2018).
If this holds, the provisional total is expected to reach 6,144,337 sT, (or 5,573,528 mT).
   
The 2019 California Organic processing tomato deliveries has slighted increased with 16,893 sT (15,324 mT) harvested for week ending August 17, 2019. This bring the total harvested up to 236,485 sT (214,516 mT). As shown in the chart below, the year to date organic harvest is the lowest since 2013.
 
According to the figures available, the current harvest path is 1.482 million sT (1.344 million mT) behind the average of the quantities harvested at the same date (end of week 35) in the past three years. Quantities being harvested represent almost 51% of the official target of the season (12.1 million sT, or 10.976 million mT). However, the latest estimate of WPTC for the California crop is 11.5 million sT (10.432 million mT); USDA will release a revised estimate at the end of August which will give a better idea on the 2019 crop.
