Apis launches its tomato frito in new plant-based Tetra Pak packaging
Carnes y Vegetales SL, a member of the Apis Group, recently announced a change in the packaging of its Apis tomato frito sauce, which is already available on the Spanish market in the new plant-based Tetra Brik packaging. Fully recyclable, this material has a lower environmental impact and comes in a new design. The brand is now using a more up-to-date and contemporary image in which the traditional graphic components of the company have been integrated.

The Carbon Trust logo, which is also visible on the new packaging, certifies a 12% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the same packaging made from polymers of fossil origin. This reduction is mainly due to the trees and sugarcane that can capture CO2 as they grow, thereby reducing climate impact.
Complete product traceability
The Apis Group has built up over 90 years of experience in manufacturing and distributing canned vegetables and meat. The brand grows its own crops, which are managed and processed in a sustainable manner. Cutting out the middle-operators means that the company can oversee the process from the seed stage to final conditioning, thereby completely controlling product traceability and offering total food safety guarantees.
Specifically, the tomatoes are grown in fields located in the Guadiana Valley, which enjoys excellent soil and climate conditions and is irrigated with water from the Guadiana basin thanks to a sustainable drip irrigation system. No more than six hours go by between the harvest and the processing of the tomatoes, meaning that the tomato frito sauce retains all of the vitamins, health properties and organoleptic qualities of the fresh tomato.

Product traceability also applies to the packaging, since Tetra Pak is committed to maintaining high food safety standards and ensuring complete traceability throughout the value chain of processing the food and manufacturing the packaging.
In the past, "Apis has been a pioneer in distributing tomato frito sauces in carton packs in Spain. Today, we are once again pioneering with Tetra Pak by marketing our tomato frito in a more sustainable manner, entirely recyclable and with a low carbon footprint, using packaging mainly manufactured from materials of renewable origin," explains Eduardo José Fernández López, General Director of de Carnes y Vegetales SL (Apis Group).
