ANICAV: “Metal recycles forever”
The event was led by a master chef, who invited participants to volunteer for a blind test that involved tasting different types of tomato products, along with a food technician and an agricultural engineer who explained the interaction between the quality of the raw materials and the processing operations used to obtain a high-quality preparation.
"The steel can, which guarantees the sanitary condition of the product as well as food safety for consumers, has been the most popular food container for the past 150 years, used by our processing companies to package tomato products," explained the General Director of the ANICAV, Giovanni De Angelis. "In addition to preserving the nutritional and organoleptic characteristics of the product, it is also long-lasting and guarantees total recyclability."
Whether used in making cans, industrial drums or closing mechanisms, steel packaging containing tomato products is easy to separate from other waste and can be recycled again and again whilst retaining all of its qualities, in order to be reused for new products.

"Thanks to companies that are part of the ANICAV, canned tomato products are one of the symbols of the canning industry in Italy and throughout the world," stated Domenico Rinaldini, President of RICREA. "With this agreement, the logo used on packaging will immediately and directly make consumers aware of the environmental advantages of steel packaging, and thereby contribute to promoting recycling culture, which is the basis for the future success of reuse and recycling efforts."
