GPS Reports Positive Results in Portugal and Spain
GPS reports positive results from the 2026 tomato season in Portugal and Spain. At the
heart of one of Europe’s leading tomato production and processing regions, this latest
season confirms the continued strength of the Iberian tomato industry and reinforces
GPS’s commitment to further developing its presence and supporting stakeholders across
the food processing sector.
The Iberian Peninsula at the Heart of Europe’s Tomato Industry
The 2026 tomato processing season has once again highlighted the strategic importance of
Spain and Portugal within Europe’s agricultural and food processing industries.
In Spain, the season is drawing to a close, with production estimated at approximately 2.57
million tonnes, slightly below initial expectations. Average yields reached 86 tonnes per
hectare, with production volumes affected by challenging growing conditions in several
regions.
In Portugal, the 2026 processing season officially concluded on 4 October, with production
estimated at approximately 1.3 million tonnes. Despite variations in crop yields and quality
towards the end of the harvest, the country maintained its position as a major contributor to
Europe’s tomato processing industry.
Together, Spain and Portugal accounted for an estimated 3.87 million tonnes of tomatoes for
processing in 2026, reinforcing the Iberian Peninsula’s position as a strategic production hub
for the European market.
A Positive 2026 Tomato Season for GPS
For GPS, the 2026 tomato season reflects a positive momentum and confirms the relevance of
its model for stakeholders across the food processing industry.
Each year, the tomato season represents a major logistical period. Within a concentrated
timeframe, significant volumes must be harvested, processed and transported, requiring
solutions capable of efficiently supporting the pace and demands of industrial operations.
It is precisely in this environment that the GPS model demonstrates its full value.
Through its reusable packaging solutions, GPS supports industrial operators in managing their
flows through a circular model encompassing the supply, collection, cleaning, maintenance
and return to circulation of packaging.
This approach enables the same packaging to complete multiple rotations, providing a
sustainable and reliable solution for industrial flows throughout the season.
The Food Processing Industry at the Heart of GPS’s Ambitions
The positive results of the 2026 tomato season in Portugal and Spain further reinforce GPS’s
commitment to continuing and strengthening its involvement in the food processing sector.
The tomato industry clearly illustrates the challenges that circular logistics is designed to
address today: handling large volumes, ensuring packaging availability, optimising rotations
and promoting reuse throughout supply chains.
With more than 30 years of experience in reusable packaging solutions, GPS intends to
continue leveraging its expertise and international network to support stakeholders across the
food processing industry.
The objective is to continue supporting producers, processors and industrial operators with
solutions that combine logistics performance, reuse and flow optimisation.
“We are very pleased with the outcome of the 2026 tomato season in Spain and Portugal. These two markets play an important role in the European tomato industry and also represent a significant area of
growth for GPS. This season reinforces our commitment to supporting stakeholders across the food processing industry and to continuing to develop reusable solutions tailored to their operational needs.”

Continuing the Momentum Alongside the Food Processing Industry
Beyond the 2026 tomato season, GPS aims to build on this positive momentum over the long
term.
Through its international network and reuse-based model, GPS intends to continue supporting
the evolving needs of the food processing industry and developing long-term partnerships
with stakeholders across the sector.
The 2026 tomato season in Spain and Portugal therefore marks another positive milestone for
GPS and reinforces its strategy of developing circular logistics solutions to support the food
processing industry.
